flâneuse | filmmaker | curator of a dizzying nebula of obsessions
I've been told countless times that my <<cough>> "marketability" as a professional filmmaker and artist critically depends on whether I have a website named after myself. Worse yet, this self-branding website should tastefully-yet-unabashedly boast about receiving latin honors from an Ivy League college, my two graduate degrees, my co-founding of Rasquaché Film Productions and directing two features (one Independent Spirit Award-nominated!), and any self-serving accolades and achievements garnered throughout my dumb existence, as well as spell out my very Mexican, very female identity. My intellectual pursuits -- those pesky, insatiable cravings and curiosities -- are personal; my identity is complicated, and as inward-facing as it is outward-facing; and my creations veer from heady and ambitious to absurd and frivolous -- and it all keeps me going. I care deeply about cinema, philosophy, and human understanding, and I disdain a world in which I have to have a website. Consider this an attempt to create a faux-secret digi-chamber of the self. |
